Amerasian Immigrants (Archive)

This group includes Amerasians (people of Asian and American parentage) who were born to Vietnamese mothers between January 1, 1962, and January 1, 1976, and are eligible for immigrant visas if their father was a U.S. citizen. It would also include accompanying relatives.

Note:  This group would not include Amerasians from Vietnam that are here as non-immigrants or Amerasians from countries other than Vietnam.

Funding Source

These immigrants are potentially eligible for federally funded health care (MA with FFP, or MinnesotaCare program LL or FF) regardless of date of entry or length of time in the U.S. They are also potentially eligible for Refugee Assistance Program funding.

Status Adjustment

No provisions for this status. These immigrants would already be lawful permanent residents (LPRs), so there would be no need for adjustment.

Verification Requirements

Require one of the following:

l  USCIS form 551 with codes AM6, AM7, or AM8.

l  Unexpired temporary I-551 stamp in foreign passport or on USCIS form I-94 with the code AM1, AM2, or AM3.

Other Considerations

If these noncitizens are not eligible for Medical Assistance (MA) or MinnesotaCare, they may be eligible for General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC).
