Waiver Programs

Some people with disabilities, age 65 or older, or who have chronic medical needs may receive services in addition to those already covered by Medical Assistance (MA). See the Disability Services Program Manual for more information. The additional home and community-based services enable the person to receive care in the community rather than in an institution.

People who are eligible for either federally or state-funded MA may be eligible for one of the following waiver programs:

l  Community Alternative Care (CAC).

l  Community Alternatives for Disabled Individuals (CADI).

l  Developmental Disabilities (DD).

l  Brain Injury Waiver (BI).

l  Elderly Waiver (EW).

Disability Waiver Programs (CAC, CADI, DD, and BI) waive the deeming of spousal or parental income or assets.

Rules for the Elderly Waiver (EW) program depend on the person’s marital status and income as explained in the Elderly Waiver section.

For specific eligibility guidelines for each waiver program, see the sections listed above.
