Purpose.

MSC or MSC Plus?

Purpose

Minnesota Senior Care is part of a waiver from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The purpose of the waiver is to phase in greater coordination of standard Medical Assistance (MA) benefits (sometimes referred to as ”r;state plan services”) with other MA benefits such as Elderly Waiver (EW) services and nursing facility care.

MSC or MSC Plus?

Managed care enrollees age 65 or older who do not choose to enroll in MSHO will be enrolled in MSC or MSC Plus, depending on their county of residence:

l  Minnesota Senior Care is the managed care product for people who live in PMAP counties. Minnesota Senior Care enrollees will receive their MA state plan services through their managed care organization (MCO).

l  Minnesota Senior Care Plus is the managed care product for people who live in CBP counties.

n  For MSC Plus, in addition to MA state plan services, the MCO is also responsible for authorization and payment of EW services, and is liable for up to 180 days of nursing facility coverage.

n  MSC Plus enrollees who are not eligible for EW services will be enrolled in a different MSC Plus product from those who are EW-eligible.
