03.25 - Medical Assistance (MA) for Families With Children |
Archived: June 1, 2016 |
The following groups have an MA basis of eligibility because they are a child under 21, are pregnant or are the parent or relative caretaker of a dependent child . People in some of these groups have an income and/or asset test, so use Method A to determine which exclusions, deductions, and disregards to use. People in some of these groups are automatically eligible without an income or asset test.
See the following sections for specific eligibility requirements for each group.
l Auto Newborns. These children have special eligibility provisions due to being born to an MA- or MCRE-eligible woman.
l Foster Care. Children in foster care placements for whom Title IV-E maintenance payments are made are automatically eligible for MA. Non-title IV-E foster children are eligible as children under 21 and must meet all applicable eligibility requirements.
l Adoption Assistance. Children receiving federal (Title IV-E funded) or state-funded adoption assistance are automatically eligible for MA.
l Parents/Relative Caretakers. The name of this basis is sometimes abbreviated to ”parent/caretaker.”
l Transitional Medical Assistance (TMA) and Transition Year Medical Assistance (TYMA). There are specific conditions and standards to consider for families who lose eligibility for MA Method A under the 100% FPG income standard. These families may be eligible for up to four months of TMA or 12 months of TYMA.
