The Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) are issued by the federal Department of Health and Human Services.
l These guidelines are used to determine income eligibility for the Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP). The appropriate FPG figure is based on many factors including:
n The health care program for which eligibility is being determined.
n The person’s major program, subgroup and eligibility group for MinnesotaCare.
n The basis of eligibility for MA or GAMC.
n Whether children are in the household.
n The number of people included in the household size.
n Whether the person has a medical spenddown.
l FPG are updated annually for July.
l The FPG is sometimes referred to as an income standard.
