Medicare Part C is known as Medicare Advantage. Medicare recipients may choose to participate in Part C which provides integrated prescription drug and health care coverage for Medicare recipients.
Medicare recipients that do not choose Part C will continue to receive benefits under the Original Medicare Plan.
Persons with coverage under Medicare Part A and Part B can elect to enroll into a Medicare Advantage Health Plan.
l These plans include Managed Care Plans, Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans, Medicare private fee-for-service plans and Medicare Specialty plans.
Note: An enrollee may be limited in provider choices as they may be required to stay within the plan’s network.
l These plans may have more coverage than the Original Medicare Plan and the enrollee may have to pay an extra premium to the plan.
l Enrollees who choose to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan without Medicare Part D, may not enroll in a stand-alone Part D plan and will be without Medicare drug coverage.
Medicare Part C does not have a premium, however:
l Medicare Part A and Part B premiums will continue to be deducted from the person’s monthly Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.
l Medicare Part D premiums will continue to be paid using the method the enrollee chooses.
