AmeriCorps State and National and NCCC Payments

There are three different AmeriCorps programs:

l  AmeriCorps State and National. This is a national service program authorized by the National and Community Service Act of 1990. The program provides grants to States, Indian tribes, private and public nonprofit organizations and Institutes of Higher Education for community service projects, such as educational programs, environmental activities, and disaster relief.

l  AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (AmeriCorps NCCC). This is a residential service program for young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 in which participants provide work teams for a variety of community service projects.

l  AmeriCorps-VISTA. This program provides full-time members to community organizations and public agencies to create and expand programs that build capacity and ultimately bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty.

This section only addresses policy for AmeriCorps State and National and AmeriCorps NCCC payments.  See Excluded Income for information on AmeriCorps-VISTA payments.
