23.40.55ar2 - LTC SSI Deduction (Archive) |
Archived: October 1, 2008 |
SSI benefits are usually reduced to $30 when SSI recipients enter an LTCF for a stay that is expected to last more than three months. However, some clients meeting certain conditions will continue to receive their full SSI benefit.
Allow the amount of SSI a client receives as a deduction in the LTC income calculation if the Social Security Administration (SSA) approves one of the following conditions:
l Continued community level SSI benefits paid under section 1611(e)(1)(G) of the Social Security Act.
SSI payments are continued to these LTCF residents because they are expected to be institutionalized for a temporary stay of no more than three months and need to continue to maintain a home for those three months.
l Continued community level SSI benefits paid under section 1611(e)(1)(E) of the Social Security Act.
SSI payments are continued to these LTCF residents because they were 1619(a) or 1619(b) in the month before the first full month of institutionalization. This payment continues for up to the first two full months of residence.
