People’s eligibility for Minnesota Health Care Programs depends on certain factors. The relevant factors vary by program but may include age, disability, pregnancy, or presence of children in the home.
l For MinnesotaCare, these factors determine the correct MinnesotaCare eligibility group.
l For Medical Assistance (MA), these factors may provide a basis of eligibility, which is a key requirement for MA.
l Some people who are eligible for Medicare may be eligible for the Medicare Savings Programs in addition to or instead of MA.
l Some MA enrollees who are disabled, age 65 or older, or have other chronic medical needs may have certain MA rules waived. They may receive services in addition to those already covered by MA through a waiver program.
l There are other factors that play a role in determining the appropriate health care program coverage for some MA clients. These may include immigration status, living arrangement, or a specific medical diagnosis.
l People who do not have a basis of eligibility for MA may be eligible for General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC).
l Some adults without children may be eligible for Transitional MinnesotaCare while making the transition from General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) to MinnesotaCare eligibility.
